Polish Mushroom Meatballs
Ingredients
Meatballs:
- 4 sliced of white bread soaked in milk and squeezed
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 pound of hamburger (or 1/2 ground pork, 1/2 ground hamburger)
- salt and pepper
- 1 c flour in flat bowl or plate
- cooking oil
Mushroom Sauce:
- 1lb mushrooms sliced
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 c chicken or beef stock
- cornstarch for thickening and cold water
- salt and pepper
- 1 tsp lemon juice 1 (16 oz)
- sour cream
Directions
- Mix the bread with the onion, egg and meat very well.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Form small balls, roll in flour.
- Place in medium hot cast iron pan with cooking oil.
- Brown on all sides.
- Place cooked meatballs in crock pot.
- In another pan simmer the mushrooms with the onions and stock for 15 minutes.
- Stir in cornstarch mixture.
- Bring to boil, stirring.
- Add salt, pepper, and lemon juice.
- Remove from heat.
- Add mushroom sauce to crock pot meatballs.
- Add sour cream about 15 minutes before serving.
