Polish Mushroom Meatballs

Ingredients

Meatballs:

  • 4 sliced of white bread soaked in milk and squeezed
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 pound of hamburger (or 1/2 ground pork, 1/2 ground hamburger)
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 c flour in flat bowl or plate
  • cooking oil

Mushroom Sauce:

  • 1lb mushrooms sliced
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 c chicken or beef stock
  • cornstarch for thickening and cold water
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 tsp lemon juice 1 (16 oz)
  • sour cream

Directions

  1. Mix the bread with the onion, egg and meat very well.
  2. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Form small balls, roll in flour.
  4. Place in medium hot cast iron pan with cooking oil.
  5. Brown on all sides.
  6. Place cooked meatballs in crock pot.
  7. In another pan simmer the mushrooms with the onions and stock for 15 minutes.
  8. Stir in cornstarch mixture.
  9. Bring to boil, stirring.
  10. Add salt, pepper, and lemon juice.
  11. Remove from heat.
  12. Add mushroom sauce to crock pot meatballs.
  13. Add sour cream about 15 minutes before serving.
