Oster's Light 'n Crisp Waffles

Ingredients

  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups fat-free milk
  • 1/3 cup of apple sauce  (or 1/3 olive oil)
  • 2 cups wheat flour
  • 2 egg whites, stiffly beaten
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder

Directions

  1. Preheat waffle maker
  2. Place all ingredients, except egg whites, in a large bowl.
  3. Mix with whisk until smooth.
  4. Then add in by folding (beaten) egg whites.
  5. Pour a ladle full of batter in a cooking sprayed waffle maker.
  6. Bake until the steam no longer escapes or about 3 to 5 minutes.
  7. Serve with butter, syrup, honey and various fresh fruits.

Variations:

Pecan or Macadamia Nut Waffles

  1. Sprinkle 1 Tbsp finely chopped nuts over preheated waffel iron.
  2. Then pour 1/2 cup batter over the nuts.
  3. Bake as directed.

Bacon Waffles: Cook bacon strips.

  1. Pour 1/2 cup batter over waffle plates.
  2. Lay 1 strip of cooked bacon, cut in half, over batter.
  3. Bake as directed.

Cheese Waffles:

  1. Fold in 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese into batter.
  2. Bake as directed.
  3. Serve with syrup or your favorite creamed entree.

Blueberry Waffles:

  1. Fold 2 cups fresh blueberries into batter.
  2. Pour 3/4 cup of batter into waffle plate.
  3. Bake as directed.

Chocolate Chip Waffles:

  1. Fold 1 cup of chocolate chips into batter.
  2. Bake as directed.
