Baked Vidalia Onion Side

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 3 large Vidalia onions, coarsely chopped
  • 2 c (8 ounce) shredded Swiss cheese
  • 2 c mayonnaise
  • 1 (8 ounce) can sliced water chestnuts, drained and chopped (optional)
  • 1/4 c dry white wine 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 tsp hot sauce

Directions

  1. Melt butter in large skillet over medium-high heat
  2. Add onion
  3. Saute 10 minutes or until onions are tender.
  4. Stir together shredded Swiss cheese and next 5 ingredients
  5. Stir in onion, blending well.
  6. Spoon mixture into a lightly greased 2-quart baking dish.
  7. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes, and let stand 10 minutes.
  8. Serve with tortilla chips or just as a side.
